All SEO’s know that backlinks are are very important way to gain listings in the search engines. A backlink is a kind of vote of confidence in your site. Tailoring your backlinks to ensure they contain the appropriate anchor text will aid your listings, especially if the site that is linking to you is trusted, relevant and has some listings and reputation itself. Getting backlinks however can be a very time consuming and long winded process.

One great simple tip for obtaining natural backlinks is to ask your clients for a backlink in their order confirmation email. This is especially easy to do on open source ecommerce platforms, simply find the script which generates the email and change the text that is sent to the customer.

This is a fantastic easy way to possible obtain a strong backlink without having to do any of the leg work. Once you have the code added to your system each client will recieve the comment asking them for a link, and there is a strong possibility if they liked your service they will!

In the order confirmation email I would provide the customer with the code to copy to their site, there are reasons for this they are:

  • The client might not be technical
  • You can use this opportunity to ensure the link contains appropriate anchor text

There are also other places you code ask for a link which may be of some success such as adding it the your email footer, or maybe even on your site. Links are very important to SEO, so i think it is important to grab every opportunity you can
