Localised search is becoming a more and more important aspect of your search engine optimisation campaign. Google is even starting to display local results based on your IP address without you including a location. Google does occasionaly get this wrong at the moment on and this is something they are working on. Below is a screenshot for a search for ‘restaurants in Manchester’.

Getting into Google local can be very important for your business, especially if you are a local business or a hotel chain. But how can you get your website to the top of Google Local?
Below I have detailed a few tips for getting your Google local listing to the top of Google.
- Add your full address onto the contact page
- Include your area in the title tags
- Include location keywords in the URL
- Add phone number of business on the contact us page
- Have a high PR on the home page

It i important to understand that Google associates reviews on your site from third party websites. Look at other sites ranking for your keywords in Google local and take a look at where their reviews are coming from and add reviews to these sites as they will be trusted by Google.
Google local listings also rely heavily on citations, citations are instances of your address and business details on other trusted sites and directories. Citations are used by Google to ensure you have the correct address in their listings. If your address is mentioned on other trusted sites there is a greater chance that they have the right actual business.
Below I have detailed some trusted websites where you should add citations for your business to improve the chance of your Google local listing ranking highly.
There are of course many other websites you should add your salutation too. Again the best advice is to look at your competitors citations which are listing under websites in the Google local main listings. Each area will be different so ensure you do plenty of research before you undertake this action.
